1st phase of SCM to fund 34 instead of 20 cities

In a day or two, the  government is going to add another 14 cities to be in the first set of cities which shall receive funds under the smart cities mission(SCM).Therefore, instead of 20, it will be 34 Indian cities which will turn smart through centre and state’s combined effort during the first phase. This was announced by urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu at a CII event in New Delhi on 19th May. The ultimate goal is to develop 100 Indian cities as smart cities with advanced infrastructure and safe & better quality of life for citizens  which is projected to involve $40 billion.
