Bhubaneswar: Drones to check traffic violators

To check upon those who violate lane driving rules and overtake at busy traffic junctions, the commissionerate police has decided to use drones. According to sources, the CP is likely to issue an order soon to identify different stretches in the city as 'no overtake' zones. Initially, they will check near the traffic junctions between Airport Square and Rabindra Mandap Square in Bhubaneswar. The State government is planning to impose hefty penalty from September 1st on lawbreakers under the Amended Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019. A fine of Rs 1,000 will be charged for not wearing helmet, Rs 5,000 for those who are driving without license and Rs 10,000 for drinking and driving under the amended law.
