BMC to penalize citizens for dumping waste in drains
For residents who discharge waste from their toilets directly into drains or dump it in open spaces will be penalized by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) under the Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) Rules, 2018. The FSSM rules regulate transportation of faecal sludge to the septage treatment plant, discharge of sludge from the latrines to the septic tank and connection of the household latrine with the sewer lines. The rule is if a owner does not build a septic tank within 15 days from the date of receipt of the notice, he or she will be asked to pay a sum of Rs 5,000. After that, the BMC will construct a septic tank using its own resources.
